Time Management
Time Management: How do you spend your time?
Many people that I meet have things in mind that they will do at some point in the future – when they have more time. Strangely, this mystical time never arrives and the goals become dreams which are never realised.
There are many demands on our time – work, family, chores, hobbies social activities, the desire for perfection – if you feel like you spend all your time doing things that you “have to” do rather than things that you want to do, then it’s time to take stock.
Time is precious – you can only spend it once and when it has passed, it has gone forever. How well do you use the time that you have been given?
Life is too short for you to watch it pass you by, spending your time doing what your boss wants – or what you think he or she wants. Many bosses get a bad press, has yours actually put all this pressure on you or are you just imagining the response that you might get if you bring your other priorities to the table?
Sapphire Coaching will help you to:
- Assess how your time is currently spent and identify what would be a more balanced distribution of time.
- Identify what is urgent and what is important and use this to help you prioritise how you spend your time.
- Create time just for you, for fun, hobbies and relaxation.
- Use your diary and task lists to manage your time effectively.
- Set boundaries for different activities and help you to learn to be totally immersed in whichever activity you are currently committed to, making you more focussed and more productive.
- Learn to say politely say no to requests for your time which are not beneficial to you.
- Book time in your diary for the activities that you want to do. This makes a real commitment to making them happen. Plan the things you want to do first and then fit the chores around them, not the other way around
- Keep a note of things that you need to do and use this to comfortably plan your week. Having a note of what you will do means you can happily forget it until it is time to deal with it.
- Ask for what you need, whether it be time or some other resource to make your task load more manageable.
- Consider other ways that you can make best use of your time. Can the time spent commuting be used to listen to relaxing music or motivational CDs? Can you travel by train rather than drive so that you can turn your attention to reading rather than the road? Can you use your lunch break to exercise? Or see your friends? Is it cost effective to hire someone to do the chores that you don’t enjoy, releasing your free time for something that interests you?
