Diets don’t work; they are believed to have a success rate of just 5% because whilst people lose weight the vast majority return to their original weight or heavier within 5 years (Source: American Psychologist). Diets are based on deprivation and will power. Deprivation is unpleasant and not conducive to feeling good. Relying on willpower may be effective when you’re feeling good but can take a whole lot of effort that is difficult to sustain.
For sure, if you have been overeating (and if you are overweight then you probably have), you will need to reduce your calorie intake from food and increase your activity levels in order to shed your surplus pounds.
